EXCEL

EXCEL

EXCEL Competition gymnastics is a step up from recreational gymnastics, involving learning and mastering a series of skills and performing these at competitions, whilst developing many essential life skills and friendships along the way.

Excel is from one of our values - Excellence. The EXCEL programme originated in the Top Of The South gymnastics clubs, and was further developed in 2019 by a group of clubs located in Wellington. It aims to encourage gymnasts to excel at their own level and pace through higher level coaching of skills. As a result, it can be done on a two-day a week commitment, with shorter training sessions, and allows for gymnasts to progress at different rates on different apparatus. The EXCEL programme begins with compulsory exercises and encourages gymnasts to perform with attention to detail. Excel Levels 1 to 4 have compulsory routines, Excel level 5+ have compulsory vault and bars routines, and compulsory skills on beam and floor to be included in routines with personal creative choreography.

PLEASE NOTE: Competitions are optional for our EXCEL Gymnasts and there is no expectation or pressure to compete. However, our lessons are based around the majority of our EXCEL gymnasts competing between August and November, and being competition ready. With this is mind, we re-enrol students every term to keep there space within the class, and invite those on the waitlist to join when a space becomes available.

EXCEL TUMBLING

ARGOS have developed a new program for those athletes who tumble at an advanced level. EXCEL Tumbling aligns with the GNZ National Levels Tumbling Program and our athletes will be training between levels 6-10. Our EXCEL Tumbling programme starts in Term 3 on Thursday 20th July from 7.00 – 8.30. Training will be for 1.5 hours per week and cost $245 per term. As this programme develops, we will look at opening up another 1.5 hour class so athletes can choose to train for 1.5 or 3 hours per week, and we envisage this happening in term 4.

The program will involve:

  1. Athletes must be at a level where they can put 2 advanced skills together.
  2. Training within GNZ Tumbling National Levels Programme. Levels 6-10.
  3. Training is 1.5 hours per week. Thursdays 7.00 – 8.30pm
  4. Set routines for competitions
  5. Competing is OPTIONAL. Athletes can enter both Short track and Levels Program Competitions.

If you are interested in joining our tumbling squad, please join up via our website at www.argosgym.co.nz/register Registrations for term 3 open on 19 June. And as always, if you have any questions, we are here to help on 07 577 0603.
