Men's Artistic Gymnastics (MAG)

Men’s artistic gymnastics (MAG) involves a combination of acrobatics, strength and power across 6 different apparatus.

Founding father Friedrich Ludwig Jahn (1778-1852) was the first to lay the foundations for the group based exercise. Individual performances then took focus at the 1936 Olympic Games and the current format was adopted at the 1952 Olympic Games, with all six apparatus.

Floor - This acrobatic routine displays tumbling, strength and balance movements connected with gymnastic artistry.

Pommel Horse - Routines see circular movements of the body and pendulous swings executed, whilst turning and travelling along the horse.

Rings - The gymnast demonstrates strength and balance on a pair of suspended rings with aerial abilities displayed through a dismount.

Vault - A 25m run up must develop the necessary power to take off from the springboard, and complete aerial skills before a stable landing.

Parallel Bars - Gymnasts combine static holds, acrobatic and swing elements, finishing with an aerial dismount off the side or the end of the bars.

High Bar - Routines consist of giant swings and near-bar elements with changes of direction and grip, followed by a high acrobatic dismount.
